EXPERIENCE SOME OF THE DARKEST SKIES IN NORTHUMBERLAND
Heavenly views across Northumberland with stylish accommodation to match |
Ilderton Dod Barns at Ilderton Dod are situated in Northumberland National Park, apparently built in the 1600s when life was lived at a slower pace. They’re a mile-and-a-half up a private farm track (accessible by car in all but extreme weather) but for those that require it, there is 4G mobile phone coverage!
The converted farm buildings are in the middle of an 1800-acre working hill farm so you may well see action involving tractors, sheep, cattle and working collies during your stay. Close by The Barns is the original farm house, a small cottage rented by Jill and Anthony, born and bred Northumbrian's, who know the area well. |
Once up the track, you are definitely away from it all for a few days or longer. There is no light pollution as we are within Northumberland International Dark Sky Park, you may even see the Northern Lights. A Sky Quality Meter reading was taken at the farm on 6th December 2018 measuring 21.024, which makes it one of the darkest locations in Northumberland International Dark Sky Park. We have provided a set of binoculars for you to look at the stars, a flask to enjoy a hot drink and there is seating outside.
